This Daughter plays with Winnie the Pooh Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

john fx: I am archiving this listing because, although this is on a public bridleway, the local landowner has an issue with people straying on his land to look for it. This is not really justified as there has not been anyone logging any visits for the last few months. In the past there was just one instance and the cache was moved when he informed me of it. He still brings the incident up so I am doing this to keep the peace.

Geocache Description:

A walk along a quiet bridleway to an old bridge.

This cache was taken from the Mother cache by Team Marzipan on March 22nd 2009. The mother Cache (GC15RYZ) contains ready-made daughter caches for people to take away and hide themselves. It was placed to celebrate TM's 100th cache hide and this daughter is our first hide!

This Daughter loved to come down to this little old bridge and play poohsticks with Winnie the Pooh. Poohsticks is a game first mentioned in The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne. It is a simple game which may be played on any bridge over running water; each player drops a stick on the upstream side of a bridge and the one whose stick first appears on the downstream side is the winner. It is a game for all ages.

This cache is on a bridleway midway between Trelawnyd and Marian Mills. You can either park at Marian Mills or at Trelawnyd. Both are nice walks but I prefer the Trelawnyd route. This cache can be combined with Gizzard the Third’s 'This Daughter went to Marian Mill's' (GC1P5RV).

Route from Trelawnyd.
Leave Trelawnyd in the direction of Dyserth. Approximately 200metres from the last houses you will see the bridle path on your left. Park on the grass verge just before the track. It is not suitable to drive down the track. Walk past the bungalow and you shortly come to a junction, turn right. Follow the track down to the bridge. It is a lovely old green lane with the hedges forming an arch over your head. Look for the highways the badgers have made as they cross the lane. It is not hard to imagine a horse and cart trundling down the lane laden with corn to be ground at the water mills.

Route from Marian Mills.
Park on the lay-by near the bend in the road. Please don’t drive up the track, but walk to the cache. Follow the Offa’s Dyke Path to Marian Cwm. Visit 'This Daughter went to Marian Mill's' (GC1P5RV) to learn more about the old watermills. As you walk along the beginning of the lane and you look to your right you will see an old railway track bed, now with young trees growing from it. Soon after you will pass through some old bridge abutments which would have taken the track over the lane. This track was laid over a hundred years ago to extend the Prestatyn – Dyserth line to Trelawnyd, then known as Newmarket. The track and bridges were laid from Dyserth for ¾ mile before the project was abandoned after particular difficulties with putting a level crossing on the main road at Dyserth. At the junction Offa’s Dyke Path turns to the right – turn left and walk past the front of the mill house. Follow the track to the cache. With full leaf cover gps is not accurate so the hint will be handy.

Congratulations Gribin II and Gizzard III to be FTF
