WHAT |
Our Shindig event is for
all of our geocacher friends to meet, eat, and be merry at the
beginning of the 2008 Holiday Season. |

W.W. Knight Nature Center
Hankison Great Room
This beautiful 42
acre preserve has a pond, wetland, native prairie, woods, picnic
gazebos, boardwalk and trails.
Along with the Great Room, the Nature Center houses a library and
meeting room, nature viewing area, a ranger station, and naturalist
offices.
Note that we are renting only the Great Room, so other areas of
the Nature Center will remain open to the public. An outdoor deck
attached to the Great Room is also available for our
use.
The Great Room has WiFi, so bring your WiFi enabled
laptops and other devices if you
like.

DIRECTIONS |
In case you forget your GPSr or it does not have
mapping software, here are some directions!
1) From
I-80/90:
- Take Exit 64.
- Take I-75 South/OH-795 ramp to the left towards
OH-199/US-20/Dayton for 0.4 mi.
- Take OH-795 ramp to the right towards Millbury/Perrysburg for
1.0 mi.
- See Step 4
2) From South
Bound I-75:
- Take Exit 195 to OH-795 towards Perrysburg for 0.2 mi.
- Take I-75 South ramp and remain in OH-795 lane for .3 mi.
- Take the OH-795 ramp to the right to OH-795 for 0.7 mi.
- See Step 4
3) From North
Bound I-75:
- Take Exit 195 to OH-795 towards Perrysburg for 0.4 mi.
- Take the OH-795 ramp to the right towards Millbury/Perrysburg
for 0.3 mi.
- See Step 4.
4) From West
bound OH-795:
- Turn left onto OH-795 (Indiana Ave) for 0.2 mi from I-75S or 0.3
from I-75N.
- Turn right onto White Rd for 0.4 mi.
- Proceed to Preserve Entrance on the right at 29530 White Rd for
1.0 mi.
5) From OH-24
(Anthony Wayne Trail) in Maumee OH:
- Take OH-20 (Conant St) South to Maumee/Perrysburg Bridge
where it becomes W Front St for 1.1 mi
- Bear left lane to OH-65 (W Front St) after crossing
bridge.
- Turn right on White St for 3.0 mi.
- Proceed to Preserve Entrance on the left at 29530 White Rd for
400 ft. |
EVENT
SCHEDULE |
• 9:00 am - Shindig committee to set up. Walk-in volunteers
welcome. Coffee and Hot Chocolate available.
• 11:00 am
- Cachers may begin to arrive - Please stop at the
registration table to pick up your name tags and sign our log
book!
• 01:00 pm -
"Chili & Soup Cook-Qff" & Dinner.
• Caching
times, award presentations and other activity times to be
determined at the event.
• 6:00 pm -
Time to clean-up and head home!

ACTIVITIES
|
Additional activities are still a work in
progress.
• The Chili
& Soup Cook-Off winners will be awarded $25 gift certificates
for both categories.
• 50/50
Raffle
• Event
Geocaching: Temporary caches are to be placed on the Preserve
property. Permanents abound in the area surrounding the Preserve,
and new caches will probably be placed prior to the
event.
• Award
Presentations: Raffle, Cook-Off, 1K Ammo Can, etc.
• Travel Bug, Geocoin, Sig Item table.
•
If you have found
500 or more cache finds, be sure to sign our NWOGEO
Banner! (Someone just needs to remember to bring it!

FOOD
&
DRINK |
•
As part of the activities, we will have a Chili and Soup Cook Off
with awards for the winners!
• Dinner and
Deserts for the Shindig this year will be pot luck. Drinks will be
provided.
•
Various beverages
will be provided by NWOGEO for all attendees.

Note that the
Great Room has a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, sink and
Great Room serving counter.

EVENT
COSTS |
The event cost
is only $5 per person over 12. One 12 and under child FREE
with each paid admission per group.
This covers the
cost of facility rental, drinks, and supplies.
The
facility capacity is 100, so PLEASE post a "will attend" log noting
the number of adults (over 12) and children (12 and under)
attending. |

• Sig items and geocoins to trade and show &
tell.
• Travel Bugs to be "Discovered",
"Dropped" or "Grabbed".
• Warm clothes for caching, caching gear, a camera,
and all of your Geo-Holiday cheer! |
EVENT HISTORY |
Our previous Holiday Shindig's have hosted up to
100 Northwest Ohio Geocachers and many of our friends from
Michigan, Indiana and other Ohio regions. We hope to see them
again this year. |
