Fort Snelling State Park
Fort Snelling State Park is located at the confluence of the
Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers. The Dakota called this place
Ha-Ha Mdo-Te which translates to "junction of two rivers" and from
which the town of Mendota got its name. The park opened in 1962 to
conserve open space and wildlife in the metropolitan area. There
are 18 miles of cross-country skiing trails, 18 miles of hiking
trails, 5 miles of biking trails, golf and canoe rentals,
picnicking, fishing, boating, and swimming. The Thomas C. Savage
visitor center offers exhibits and interactives as well as a
giftshop and restrooms.There is a daily entrance fee of $7.00 or an
annual pass for $25.00

This cache is located off the bike/pedestrian trail at Steamboat
Landing in Fort Snelling State Park. Travel +/- 100 feet NE to the
historic flood marker. Stand next to it and imagine what it would
have been like to be in this area during flood season those years.

within the Mississippi National
River and Recreation Area, a 72-mile stretch of the Mississippi
River from the cities of Dayton and Ramsey in the north to just
south of Hastings, Minnesota.
