There are 18 miles of cross-country skiing trails, 18 miles of hiking trails, 5 miles of biking trails, golf and canoe rentals, picnicking, fishing, boating, and swimming. The Thomas C. Savage visitor center offers exhibits and interactives as well as a giftshop and restrooms. There is a daily entrance fee of $7.00 or an annual pass for $25.00

Mississippi River Geocache: Historic Floods

This cache is located off the bike/pedestrian trail at Steamboat Landing in Fort Snelling State Park. Travel +/- 100 feet NE to the historic flood marker. Stand next to it and imagine what it would have been like to be in this area during flood season those years. Would you have been wading or swimming?

The Mississippi River Geocache is a series of caches placed within the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, a 72-mile stretch of the Mississippi River from the cities of Dayton and Ramsey in the north to just south of Hastings, Minnesota.

You can find out more about the Mississippi River Geocache series by visiting the park website. This cache is a joint effort between the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.

Please make sure to leave comments and be a good steward and leave no trace.

Great spot! We've made quite a few visits to the island but don't remember stopping here before. So interesting to see the river from different spots and during various seasons. We left a red Jeep but the one that was dropped here previously is not in the cache, so hopefully the next finder logs the correct one.

Found it, 8 of 10, cache 2445.

How exciting to find the National Park Service in the geocaching game. Really great. This is my first NPS cache, can't wait to do more. A great way to celebrate the Mississippi. STL and replaced. Lots of tracks in the snow: mice, rabbit, deer, coyote.

TFTC,

Kurt
