Geocache Description:

One wouldn’t know that the Schneider Springs camp was even there along the Old Dry Ridge Road except for the old Forest Service sign nailed to a large tree south of the trail. Schneider Springs lies along Forest Service trail 696. The lower end of the Forest Service trail 696 begins at N 46 49.296 W 121 01.137, just off road 1601, near its junction with road 241, and runs all the way up the ridge to Clover Springs, at the end of road 1600. The trail from its start to Schneider Springs is relatively easy for a medium to small size 4x4, jeep-type vehicle. The “camp” consists of an open grassy meadow area on the edge of the William O. Douglas Wilderness area (the boundary runs through the middle of it), an old Forest Service sign, and a can lid grown into the side of a tree. Missing are toilets, picnic tables, fire pits and drive-thru hook-ups!

Schneider Springs camp lies at the trail junction of 696 (Mud Springs) and 697 (Clover Springs) as listed in the Yakima County Off Road Vehicle Guide. Options on getting to the cache site:1. Start at either end of the trail (696). Small jeep-type 4x4, motorcycle, or quad required.2. Drive up road 1611 (Glass Ridge road) to the junction of 1617. Right on 1617 to road 260. Left on 260 and continue on to just past the old FS gate. Turn left on 697 (old jeep road) just past the gate, and continue to cache site. Road 260 is very rutted but dry for about ¼ mile just before the gate. At least a 2 wheel drive pick-up recommended here. The trail from the gate to the cache site is narrow and has sharp turns up hill, so a small to medium 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

Cache contents: Log book, pen, & geocaching notice; 2 glo sticks; emergency blanket; emergency whistle; 2 packs hand warmers; carabiner flashlite; Coleman lantern key chain; whistle-compass-thermometer key chain.

Cache/Jeep on, Dudes!!
