Geocache Description:

Webcam cache right on Ft. Lauderdale Beach

About This Cache

This webcam cache is located right across the street from a beach shopping area called Beach Place, located in the heart of beautiful Ft. Lauderdale Beach.

Parking is readily available here, but none of it is free. Bring your change for the meter or park in the Beach Place garage across the street ($5 an hour). Early in the morning or late afternoon is a good time to do this cache. The beach-goers are not quite as plentiful then. However, don't try this one at night, as there is generally not enough good lighting on the street for the webcam to see you clearly.

This cache was reported by Team RedCow in February 2004, then adopted by ePeterso2 in April 2007.

Step 1: Find the camera

The camera is located on the southeast side of the top edge of the Beach Place building. Look for the black dome of the camera housing - if you can't see it, the camera can't see you! Look here:

Step 2: Find where the camera is pointing

The camera changes where it's pointing from time to time. It can point as far south as the lifeguard station just south of Cortez St and as far north as the stairwell for the Ritz-Carlton pedestrian bridge.

Go to www.sunny.org/webcam to see what the camera sees. If it can't see you, move somewhere else!

For examples of where to stand and where the camera may be pointing, see the gallery of images taken by the webcam.

Step 3: Grab a screenshot

The live webcam feed is here: www.sunny.org/webcam

If you're caching alone, use your mobile phone to grab a screenshot.

If you've got an assistant at a computer on the internet, there's a snapshot button at the bottom right of the video player.

Step 4: Log it with your photo

Once you have your picture post your log and then upload your saved picture to your cache log. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR ALL "FOUND IT" LOG ENTRIES.

IMPORTANT: "Found It" logs posted without screenshots captured from the webcam will be deleted without warning, notification, or explanation.

Every "Found It" log entry here must include a photo of the finder taken by the webcam - references to photos posted by other people don't count.

If your "Found It" log is deleted, it is because you did not attach a screenshot from the webcam, please don't take it personally - just log your find again and include the required photo.

Can I post a selfie taken at Ground Zero instead of a screen capture from the webcam?

NO. The whole point of a webcam cache is to post a photo of you as seen by the webcam. If your camera is not the webcam (which it isn't), then you haven't satisfied the mandatory requirement for posting a Found It log here.

What if the webcam is down or I can't figure out how to get a screen capture on my phone? Can I post a selfie taken at Ground Zero instead?

NO. See previous statement. Overcoming technical challenges is part of the point of finding a webcam cache.

What if I've come from very far away and probably won't ever come back to visit again? Can I post a selfie taken at Ground Zero instead?

NO. Seen previous previous statement. Overcoming logistical challenges is part of the point of finding a webcam cache.

But other people have posted selfies taken at Ground Zero. Can I post a selfie taken at Ground Zero instead?

NO, but that's a good question. The short answer is this: I should have taken action to correct the nonconforming log entries shortly after they were posted. I didn't and that's my fault, so I've allowed the old entries to remain. However, all new log entries from January 1, 2016, and beyond must have a webcam screenshot attached in which the geocacher logging the find is visible.
