Geocache Description:

This cache is placed near the south end of the impressive Goat Canyon Trestle, overlooking the breathtaking Carrizo Gorge.

Note:  The cache was originally placed by Jnglkat, Jnglkat2, Gordy and Heather with the following description:

"This cache was placed in memory of Dos Hombres, the Spreckels brothers, John and Adolph. They were at one time the financiers and owners of this San Diego & Arizona Railway (SD&A), completed in November 15, 1919. They had the vision to build a railway through Carrizo Gorge which back then was called the ‘impossible railroad’. The beauty of the gorge and the surrounding vistas enhance the remaining architecture and structure of the railroad."

In February 2005, this cache was adopted by Rocket Man.  When the cache was first placed, it was possible to access the cache by hiking or biking along the railroad tracks.  The tracks are on private property and they are now in use, so unauthorized persons are no longer allowed along the tracks.  Besides trespassing, hiking along the tracks is dangerous because there are numerous narrow tunnels and smaller trestles along the route.

The cache/trestle are still legally accessible from Anza Borrego State Park land, without hiking along the railroad tracks.  The recommended approach is from Mortero Palms/Palm Canyon to the east, but the cache can also be accessed via Carrizo Gorge to the west. You can drive part way up Carrizo Gorge, but the hike from the closest parking area is said to be more difficult than the hike from Mortero Palms.  The Mortreo Palms approach is described below:

Waypoints, Trail Description and Route Map will be added soon.  For now, go here for trail information.
