Geocache Description:

Stenbrottsbatteriet på Tjurkö

Stenbrottsbatteriet ingick i samma befästningsplan för Karlskrona som Ellenabbsfortet och förstärkningarna av Västra Hästholmens och Kungsholmens fort. Med sina fyra 24 cm haubitsar var Stenbrottsbatteriet ett av kustartilleriets tyngst bestyckade. Stenbrottsbatteriet skulle ge flankeringsstöd till Kungsholmens fort.

Anläggningen är uppförd av sten från det brott den är belägen i. Pjäserna stod öppet och skyddades i ryggen av det gamla stenbrottets brytmur, mot vilken också ammunitionsförråd stod. Mot havet utgjordes stormningsskyddet av en betongmur.

Efter det att anläggningen togs ur drift 1936 har den använts som övningsplats. Några hundra meter härifrån ligger kommandoplatsen
