Geocache Description:

we made a circular walk of approx 4 1/2 miles by parking at the white horse wood, doing the nearby hi ho silver and castle walk caches before following the north downs way to the rear of Cobham Manor equestrian centre. you can however park much closer and follow a small path directly to the cache.

This cache was set on a nostalgic visit for Tig to Cobham Manor Equestrian Centre in Thurnham which has recently closed as a public riding centre and changed to a private livery and competition yard. This is a sad development for Tig who learnt to ride here when she was only 5 and spent many happy years helping look after the horses.

The cache has been placed at the rear edge of their land so if you are not keen on horses you do not need to venture far to find it and can return the way you came without concern.

However if you like horses the public footpath continues straight through the middle of the 50 acres they own , which includes a 22 fence cross country jumping course, a portion of which can be seen from near the cache site.
The public footpath continues accross fields which may contain horses to the stable yard and competition arenas.Their website says they host a minimum of 4 shows a week including dressage, showjumping and junior fun so you may be lucky to witness some during your visit. If a show is in progress their cafe will be open, but please be sure to keep your dogs under control near the horses as they can give a nasty kick.

With the Olympics coming to us in 2012 the improving facilities here may well be used for the international teams to support their training.

Note: please be aware that the suggested parking for a quick cache and dash N51 16 941 E000 36 611 is extreemly tight and turning the car maybe a bit tricky, you may wish to park at N51 17 099 E000 36 762 which is opposite the dead end road you need and walk down the lane. Also the footpath sign leads you accross someones garden but a path which skirts the outside of the garden and is sign posted Cobham Manor is just a little further down the road and ends up in the same place.
