Geocache Description:

A hide that is designed to promote the International Space Station Sightings waymarking game. This 4" long X 1" diameter camo'd plastic bottle is available 24x7x365 in an old-fashioned roadside park along US Hwy 18. Bring a pen to sign the log. This is a replacement for the original container that was lost in a park enhancement program by the City!

This cache is dedicated to the International Space Station Sightings waymarking game and commemorates our successful completion of the requirements for a waymark under this category at www.waymarking.com.

The waymarking game was established in September, 2006 designed to promote an interest in space and science. One requirement for getting a waymark is to be one of two or more people that see the ISS fly over one after the other. Each participant must be a minute or more ISS travel time apart. One minute, that’s not much you say? Well, in that amount of time the ISS moves across about 300 miles of ground. The photo of our GPSr and the orbit track on 3 Jan '07 of the lower 48 United States shows the path that the ISS traveled along as it passed directly over the cache.

To find a player, first go to Heavens-Above.com and find a 45° (or higher) pass over your area and the area of the other player. Then find someone else at least 300 miles away in the general directions the ISS will be traveling. Use the ground tracks available at Heavens-Above and geocaching.com to locate caches (and or waymarks) that have owners living fairly close by. Ask them to participate. If they are interested, make plans and postulate good weather over your area!

Consider playing this waymarking game! We guarantee you will get a thrill when that bird wanders across the heavens lit by the Sun brighter than any star, and right on time. It is simply amazing.
