Geocache Description:

A micro logbook container inside a small container hidden along a steep hill just inside the woods along Burkhardt Ave. The hide itself is very simplistic and a small-to-regular outer container. Parking - you're on your own. There's a church and side streets nearby or park along 5th street and walk the trails through woods - just keep your eye out for The Bogeyman!

The cache container was stolen sometime around February or March 2010. Unfortunately the container was very custom and not cheap so I am forced to archive. At least I got 71 found-its and I hope all that found were entertained and inspired to place more creative hides. Here is a reveal of the container...

Burkhardt Hill is the location of the first organized Soap Box Derby race in America (remember bennet's archived cache GC12TE6 Burkhardt Hill?) - be sure to visit N39 45.646 W084 08.564 and read the history rock plaque while in the area.

Growing up my brother and I used to listen to an audio books-on-tape The Stephen King Collection stories from The Night Shift. It is a series of about 20 short horror stories and one of them was called "The Bogeyman". It used to scare the crap out of us.




Synopsis of "The Bogeyman" by Stephen King:
Lester Billings speaks to his psychiatrist about the Bogeyman that is killing all his children. Their first child Denny, was afraid of the dark in his own room - a room in which the closet door kept creeping open.

After Denny's reported Crib Death, they move their second child, Shirley out of their room and into her own room - Denny's old room. She too becomes a victim of the Bogeyman, although the official explanation is brain convulsions causing her to swallow her tongue.

By now Lester has pretty good ideas of the cause, but their third child becomes a victim too. Lester soon finds out that this doctor has a lot to hide...



...and here are a couple of key lines from "the bogeyman" when Billings realizes for the first time that the bogeyman is not just in his head, but that it is very REAL!:

Billings: "I started to think, maybe if you think of a thing long enough, and believe in it, it gets real. Maybe all the monsters we were scared of when we were kids, Frankenstein and Wolfman and Mummy, maybe they were real. Real enough to kill the kids that were supposed to have fallen into gravel pits or drowned in lakes or were just never found."

Bogeyman: "Ssssoooooo nice... Sssssoooooo niceseseeee......"
