Geocache Description:

1st Annual Beatty Geocaching Rendezvous

The town of Beatty, Nevada is celebrating 100 years of history. You are cordially invited to join us in our Centennial celebration.

As part of the celebration we are proud to host the first Geocache Event by a Nevada community. We hope this will be the first of many Annual Beatty Geocaching Rendezvous’.

Beatty is located along US 95 116 miles north of Las Vegas and 329 miles south of Reno.

A Brief History & Description of Beatty, Nevada

by David W. Toll

“Four Years after the discovery of silver ore at Tonopah, and two years after the fabulous discoveries at Goldfield, prospectors organized the Bullfrog Mining District and established a number of small communities, Beatty among them. Because of its favored location astride the usually underground Amargosa River (which makes most of its long winding way to Death Valley below the surface), Beatty survives while the livelier mining towns of Bullfrog and Rhyolite are dead.

Beatty today is important as a gateway to Death Valley, as the first community of size north of Las Vegas, and as a headquarters for exploring and rockhounding. An information station for Death Valley National Monument is located just west of the stop sign at the center of town, and the Chamber of Commerce is a short distance to the east of the sign.

Restaurants, groceries, gasoline, auto repair, lodging and all services for motorists are available.

Beatty's environs are among the most spectacular in the world, and Beatty is a good base for exploring the spectacular countryside.

Nevada Route 374 leads to the historic ghost town of Rhyolite and over Daylight Pass -- or better, take the unique and thrilling digression through Titus Canyon (when it's open) into Death Valley.”

Join us for a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning, October 9th. Then have fun with a poker run that will take you on a tour of town. You can spend the rest of the morning and afternoon doing what you do best: GEOCACHING! There will be lots of new geocaches of all levels for you to hunt. We will wind up the day with a B-B-Q and awards ceremony for the top three hands in the poker run. Live entertainment will be provided.

    UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

Here’s some good news. There will be at least 27 (yep, twenty-seven!) brand new, never claimed, never found, just waiting for a First to Finder to find, caches in the area. They won’t be available for viewing on Geocaching.com until the day of the event, but we will have all the details printed so you can begin caching right away

A newbe to Beatty should be able to get anywhere between 35 and a gazillion caches this weekend!

A question arises about what type of vehicle is required for caching in and around Beatty. Most of the caches are accessible by two wheel drive. Some may need high clearance, and yes a few will need 4X4. Of course weather might be a factor, if it has rained recently some roads could prove tricky. But it's all part of the adventure, right? Right!

Below are pictures of the front and reverse of a rare 1892 silver dollar minted at the Carson City Mint. This fantastic coin will be the prize in a game to be announced the morning of the event. Be sure you are there at 9am to hear all about it.

As you can see below, seating is limited, so please bring your lawn/camp/beach chairs.
