Geocache Description:

Cache is hidden At the west end of the Cascade Trestle over the Kettle River. This trestle is now part of the Trans-Canada trail, and has a nicely groomed trail. The bridge decking is made for pedestrian traffic only.

The Cascade Trestle is longest trestle on this section of the former Columbia & Western Railway, spanning the Kettle River almost 500 feet. British Troops, along the Canadian 44th Field Engineer Squadron decked this trestle as part of the Trans-Canada trail initiative several years ago. An information board on site gives more information about this.

The cache is a waterproof match container, containing only a stub pencil, Log sheet and Geocaching info sheet. There are 2 ways to get to the cache site - Short walk (1km), or long walk/bike ride (2.5 km).

The Short walk starts at the Trans-Canada Trail highway 395 crossing, and involves a total of 2 km of nicely groomed trail.

The long walk starts up Santa Rosa road in Christina Lake. This is 2.5 km ONE WAY, and involves about 100 verticle meters of descent. This path is much more rocky than the short walk route. This route is excellent on a mountain bike, especially if you can get dropped off at the top and picked up at the bottom. Fife road is another entry point for the trail if you wish for an even longer ride with some excellent views.

Because of the nature of trestles, I must emphasize these points:
Once you're at the cache site, respect the railings on the bridge. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO JUMP / WALK OUTSIDE THE BRIDGE RAILINGS, IT WON'T HELP YOU IN ANY WAY. DO NOT EVEN TRY TO GET ONTO THE GAS LINE CATWALK, THAT WON'T HELP YOU EITHER AND WOULD CONSTITUTE TRESPASSING. A short scramble down the hill is however safe and therefore acceptable. Done properly, this cache is completely safe.
