Hatta Yoichi & Wosanto Reservoir

Hatta Yoichi (1886-1942), born in Ishikawa in Japan, was called the father of Chia-Nan irrigation. This Japanese engineer experted himself and spent ten years designing and building the Great Chia-Nan Canal and Wushantou Reservoir for the irrigation of Chia-Nan area, benefited millions people in South Taiwan and greatly contributed to the development of Taiwan agriculture. Appreciating the contribution of Hatta Yoichi, people established a memorial bronze statue for him.

Hatta Yoichi was dead in WWII and subsequently his wife suicided at the dam of Wushantou Reservoir. Now Hatta Yoichi and his wife were interred at Wushantou Reservoir where Hatta Yoichi spent most of his life in Taiwan.

Wushantou Reservoir, also called Coral Lake (Shanhutan) for its shape, one of the oldest reservoirs in Taiwan, had been the largest reservoir in East Asia as it was builded.

If you want to visit this reservoir, you have to buy tickets for you and your car (or motocycle) at the entrance. Before or after opening time, you can pass the entrance with free charge but only for walker and cycler.
