Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as part of a series that brings you to the Omaha Trail System, the containers in this series will vary in size from peanut butter jar sized down to a film canister. All containers are covered in camo duct tape and placed not more than 20 feet away from the trail.

Welcome to the Juneau County Omaha Trail System, The trail was opened in the spring of 1992. The Omaha Trail is on what was once the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Line. It features an 875-foot tunnel one of four in the state, the tunnel was built in 1876 and had doors on both ends. There was a watchman at the tunnel from 1910 to 1947, the last Northwestern train went through the tunnel on March 25, 1987. Just beyond the tunnel is a nice rest area with picnic tables, well water, and toilet facilities. The trail is Approximately 12 miles long and stretches from Elroy, its starting point at the Sesquicentennial wooden covered bridge that spans the Baraboo river to the village of Camp Douglas. A county pass is required for those planning on biking the trail, a day pass costs just one dollar and a season pass is five dollars, passes can be purchased at most business in any of the surrounding communities. Cacher's planning on just walking the trail will have no problem since there are numerous cross roads that intersect the trail. This cache series is meant to bring more Geocachers to the area and score some easy numbers, make sure and try some of the other caches in the area to when your here.
