Geocache Description:

NOTICE: A BEAR HAS BEEN HABITUATED TO THIS CACHE. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANY POGIE BAIT OR ANYTHING THAT SMELL LIKE SOMETHING TO EAT IN THE CACHE.

Located in the Clearwater Valley of Western Montana near State Hiway 83. Terrain is practically level, riparian vegetation with timber patches. Elevation is 3995

One if by sea, two if by land. Access this cache by paddle, on foot, bicycle or over three feet of snow. Don't be deterred by the seemingly impenetrable thickets, although bushwhacking through it can lead to some nice surprises. Following trails, paths, and game trails will get you within a few feet of the cache. Kinda like the old fox and goose game. Be aware - you are in bear (both varieties) and moose country. Musquitoes can be troublesome. Firearms are prohibited here, so it's safe to hunt this cache during hunting season. An incredible variety of avifauna flutters around the area (spring to fall; coyotes in winter). You won't hear wolves, but distant dog teams make a racket at feeding time.

The levy located 200-300 feet north of the cache was constructed as a part of a muskrat farming operation in the 1920s (maybe by a man named Kiefer). Prowl around in the wet meadows north of the levy and you can find some potholes blasted with dynamite for waterfowl in the early 1980s.
