Geocache Description:

"The Big Wheel" is a huge 16 foot steam engine that was built to power a generator at a local mill. It is permanently displayed in the Centennial Plaza Mini-Park on the south side of Newport. "The Big Wheel" was donated to the City of Newport and is now a national historic landmark for the area.

Besides "The Big Wheel," the Centennial Plaza Mini-Park also contains a large gazebo for family picnics. Adjacent to the gazebo is the Pend Oreille Historical Museum complex, a must see while in Newport. The museum complex consists of 5 buildings, a railroad caboose, a 130 foot shed for antique tools and equipment, a reconstructed log building, and a completely refurbished fire lookout tower. Each building is filled with artifacts, household implements, and displays that give a feel for Pend Oreille County pioneer life.

The cache is in a standard sized magnetic key container. It has a yellow Geocaching sticker on the magnetic side of the container. The cache contains trimmed paper for your Geocacher name and log date. This paper fits VERY snugly so please be careful to put everything back. There is a small pencil in the cache, but you might bring something to write with just in case. As with all urban caches, be careful of muggles.

Please replace the cache so it is unseen by the casual observer. It will need to be adjusted just so...

OKAY... I really need your help on this one...

Several Geocachers who have posted recent finds have also reported that the container is often found in unexpected spots on the big green beast. It seems as though we must have an active muggle bent on disrupting our Geocaching efforts.

After doing a Herculean search of my own, I have got the container back in its intended position.

PLEASE - Notify me if you have any problems with this cache or if you find the little cache container in some out-of-the-way location.

NOTE - A Letter Box cache (not a Geocache) has been placed on the north side of the Big Wheel. That puts it on the "wheel" side of the contraption. It is low and in a hollow at about mid machine. Do not mistake this for the Geocache that has been there since July 14, 2004.

Good caching to you all...

X-C Shadow
