Olmsted's Ghost Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Illumineon: After much thought, I have decided to archive "Olmsted's Ghost". It has become too much of a battle against vandals. Thank you to everyone who found the cache.

When you drive by on the freeway, look up at the old stone columns, and wave to the ghost...

Geocache Description:

Waypoint #1 is in Liberty Park. Walk or drive to reach #2 and #3. There are some easy hills and uneven rocky terrain.

Frederick Law Olmsted is known as the father of modern landscape architecture. The parks he designed at the turn of the century were meant to provide tranquil settings within the reach of all city dwellers. Perhaps the most famous of his designs is New York’s Central Park.

In 1913 the city of Spokane hired the company he founded, Olmsted Brothers, to design a park system. Manito and Liberty parks were expanded and improved in their plans. Liberty Park featured a gentle valley with ponds, and rocky promontories with sweeping views. Much of Liberty Park was lost when I-90 was built through its heart.

Waypoint #1 is in the active part of Liberty Park. Waypoints #2 and #3 lead you to the bones of the once grand park. Come explore, and listen to Olmsted’s Ghost.
