Geocache Description:

Do not take the mirror. This cache is designed to be easy to find. The real find is seeing the wild woodpecker's home. Please do not touch or disturb the bird nest tree in any way. Leave the mirror in the cache.

It is not too often that you can see wild birds close up. Here is your chance. I came across this busy woodpecker grooming it's nest inside a dead tree while I was looking for a new place to hide a multi-leg cache. I was able to watch the woodpecker at a very close distance without seeming to bother it. So will you. It was so wonderful to watch I decided to make this a very simple cache so you could enjoy the experience too. Hopefully, this will be fun for the whole family.

I have a hummingbird feeder outside of my office window. I have enjoyed watching them come by. A couple of years ago they built their nest within four feet of the feeder. It was wonderful seeing them and their eggs. I hope you get as much enjoyment from this woodpecker as I have from my hummingbirds.

I have placed a mirror in the cache so you can look into the woodpecker's nest inside the dead tree without disturbing it. Do not "trade" for the mirror. It belongs with the cache. To look for the woodpecker in the nest hold the mirror in front of you and "aim" it into the hole in the tree. If it is too dark to see shine your flashlight into the mirror. That will light up the nest for you. Please replace the mirror when you are done. There is no guarantee that the woodpecker will be there when you are but it will be fun none the less.

The cache is hidden in a dead tree stump no more than six feet from the side of the road. When you find it you are about ten feet from the woodpecker's nest. It is in a narrow dead tree that is about eight feet tall. The hole to the nest is about five feet off of the ground. The woodpecker tree is just to the left of a little trail going a short distance into the woods.I hope you enjoy the hunt. Let us know if you see the woodpecker and it's family.
