Geocache Description:

Short steep climb.

RELOCATED 13TH FEBRUARY 2010.

The tarn is quite easy to reach from Dobgill car park on the Armboth side of Thirlmere. The path is steep, but not very long, approx 550yds, with an ascent of only about 350ft. The approach to Harrop Tarn from the Thirlmere direction is probably one of the most beautiful of any tarn in the Lake District. There aren’t any panoramic views, and there isn’t any long walk leading to the tarn where you get the chance to view it from many different angles. But when you get that first sight of the water through the trees you can’t help but stop in your tracks - this is one of the most peaceful settings you will ever find. Should you continue to complete the circular walk, you will be well rewarded with spectacular panaramas on the descent to Thirlmere - the whole circuit if you chose to do it takes about 2 hours. From just beyond the cache site on a clear day, you will have an excellent view of Hellvellyn and of Tarn Craggs towering high above Harrop Tarn.
