Up At The Point Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Knight2000: [:(]

Unfortunately this cache has not made it back from vacation. I'm not sure if it will be making it back as it hasn't sent me any postcards! If the cache comes back or I am able to make another and replace then I will see if this can be un-archived. I'm sad to see this cache go. It was the epitome of geocaching.

Geocache Description:

We originally found this location after finding the DAM HIKE cache near here in April of 2007. We thought it would be a great spot to bring people to see. Our first cache, The Point, lasted about two years before it was disturbed. The trail it was along lengthened and it was no longer hid well enough. I couldn’t seem to locate a suitable hiding spot for the replacement until I saw this one. To me this is what caching is all about.

Expect about ½ mile hike from the parking area to the cache location. From the parking area walk toward the cache until you reach the spillway then follow the tiny trail north. You can walk through the foliage or walk around in the water. Depending on the water level you may be able to get there without having to take a step in ankle deep water.

You will need to climb the big tree although you can do this without gear. The climb is not straight up. It would help to wear shoes with good tread. The cache is in plain sight but will take some effort to get it. (If you fall you will get even more wet and possibly hurt.) I intended on this being a regular size but after created I realized that it needed to be 5% larger to be a regular. Doh! You are looking for a flat black Lock & Lock. Please be careful and do not drop the lid! There is some poison ivy at the base of this tree so you might want to wear pants. I didn't know that when I placed it but it explains why my legs started itching so badly. This is not an easy cache to get to. It might not be for you. As will all geocaching you could get hurt. Be careful.

The view is beautiful at the point. Enjoy the view while you are there. If you can, please take a picture and share it in your log.

This is a beautiful location but unfortunately some of the fisherman and others leave some of their garbage behind. Please CITO if you can. If we all do a little it will make a big difference and I know that the Ohio State Parks will appreciate it.

If you decide to take or leave any items PLEASE record this information in your online log. We think it’s fun to know. Please remember to Trade Up, Trade Even, or Don't Trade. Travel Bugs and Geocoins are NOT trade items. Take and leave them as you please. Please only trade items that you would want to find.

If you come in by land there are two other caches that you will pass on the way here from the parking area. They are:
DAM HIKE GCNY3P
Tweeties "Out House" GCVZ95

This cache was placed with permission of Ohio State Parks, Todd Metz, and Portage Lakes State Park.
