A Cool Place in Kelso Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ElectroQTed: This was the best cache I have ever placed, because it was such a fantastic location. Despite being more remote at the end of a cave, it had disappeared more often than expected. I no longer wish to make the hike to replace it, so it's time to archive. Many thanks to all who have visited this cool spot!

Geocache Description:

A subterranean venture into a cool, damp crevasse.

Head down into the ground to find this cache. Access is fairly easy - no ropes required. Just follow the fissure. You can't get lost. The air is quite cool at the bottom. Go as far as you reasonably can and the cache should be within reach. While you can see daylight in the narrow opening above, a flashlight or headlamp is required. Also recommended is a sweathshirt and gloves - the walls and logs are damp and dirty. One of the hazards here may be things falling from above. Your GPSr will be useless down below, so you may want to take a look around from above at the posted co-ords for reference before you head down.

As you enter the crevasse, there will be a bit of a narrow spot to squeeze through. Some people may have difficulty here. The part down by the legs is about 8" and the belly/chest area is about 11" across. A little further along, you will have to climb up to another elevation and only a little bit of athleticism will be required. Take care with your footing - there was still snow and ice in spots in June.

Kelso has a combination of cycling and hiking trails, but the cache is located in an area where bikes are prohibited. Please stick to the trails. There is no reason to wander away from them as the cache is located right beside the trail. A trail map can be found here: (visit link)

Do NOT try to access the cache from the posted co-ords - go to the additional waypoint for the cave entrance for an easy access.

There is a $6.75 entrance fee per adult. Entry is NOT free anymore with a Bruce Trail membership :(. You can park either at the main lot at the bottom of the escarpment or the summit access at the top. (See additional waypoints.)

This cache has been placed with permission from Halton Regional Conservation Authority.
