Take a trip through history as you explore what once was an
important road that connected a newly born Nevada to the rest of
the Union.
Geolinux and I originally found this spot back in 2006, but
unfortunately didn't have a cahe with us at the time. So, while
Trekrr and I were grabbing the nearby Pirates Bootty, we braved the
unknown and continued up the road, eventually connecting up with
where I'd been before.
Most of us don't think of this road as much. It winds and crawls
its way up the sides of mountains, widening and narrowing as the
land slowly reclaims it, and reconnecting with pavement up near
Spooner Summit.
But to think that THIS used to be the main road, the road built
with the purpose of transport from Carson City and the Nevada
Territory over the Sierras to Lake Tahoe and Placerville and
beyond. To think that this rinky dink road has been in existance
and use since November of 1863!
For more information, read the history here:

I'd recommend coming from Spooner Summit down to this cache, as
going up from Carson City, after Pirates Bootty, you encounter two
narrow sections where my 4Runner was just thin enough to stay on
the road.
Enjoy the trip and bring a camera along with you!
