Bo's Island Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

beach boys ltd: We went out to the island today for our anual visit and sadly the cache is gone. The island has the most damage seen by me in the years I have visited so this springs storm must have been a good one and it took the cache with it. It was decided not to replace the cache in the same spot because it seems to have run its course the same as the event it was named after. Over the last few years the regulations for the grand events of the past have become stricter and the "party" is no more. This year only five people stayed overnight and we went out for sunday only, this seems to comply with the owners wishes and it was noted that the island stewards visit was rather pleasant. Anyhow do not let the lack of a cache stop you from visiting the area, it is a beautiful cove and group of islands to paddle around in and who knows......another cache may be placed on them again.

Geocache Description:

canoe/kayak to stage island near the goat island lighthouse and look in the big rock.

Named after our friend Bo who has a end of the summer party out here each year. It takes a few days to bring all the food and equipment out by boat so we campout for a few nights and help setup. We think the island is called Stage Island unless your talking about the party then everyone know's it as Bo's. We walked out (through the soggy mud flats, tip: wear old sneakers.) 1 and 1/2 hours before low tide and walked completly around stage island in 1 hour and a half but you don't need to walk completly around like we did unless you wanna check out the sights. This cache is best reached by canoe or kayak. At high tide you can get within 10 feet of it by boat so a knowledge of the tides is a absolute must. Check the weather section of the York County Coast Star for the Kennebunkport tides. :-) Park at the Cape Porpoise fish pier 43° 21.95 - 070° 25.883 its less than 1/2 mile from there. Snap a picture or two with the camera in the cache and have a good time.
