How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This event is one of a series of flash mobs that are being
synchronized to happen all at the same time around the world. The
coordinates are close but approximate.

You've heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons (visit link) but only once before for geocaching – last May. This will be the second in Nebraska. See “Nebraskache Flash Mob Nano Event” (GC12M53)

This event will last exactly 15 minutes – not one nano-second longer. It will begin precisely at 11:00:00 AM Central Time on Saturday, 10 November – precisely one hour before the East Meets West Event Cache (GC15VMV). This World-Wide Flash Mob (WWFM) will be held at N41° 08.361 W100° 45.600. This is near the location of Big Dawgg & Cardinal Girl’s geocache “North Platte's WWII Canteen” (GCY0PE). There is ample parking nearby.

The event will be highly organized (more or less) and facilitated by volunteers. A minute-by-minute itinerary of the event is below.

In general: at exactly 11:00:00 AM CST (as determined by the GPS clock, of course) a bucket full of nice, new swag will be placed at the coordinates. One volunteer will hand out "log sheets". Participants will sign the log sheets to qualify for attendance and drop them in a designated collection box. Bring your own writing instrument. Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket at any time (travel bugs or trade items). We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade. If any muggles are curious about the event a volunteer will be handing out fliers that explain geocaching. Only those participants whose names appear on a submitted log sheet may log the event.

Podcacher has said that anyone who attends a Flash Mob event could be eligible to win a prize! They will gather all the names from all the events and randomly draw a few winners to pick from their prize vault. SO print clearly on your log sheet.

SCHEDULE:
Notes:
1) all times are CST, GPS time, and AM
2) Printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary will be distributed at the event.

Pre-11:00:00 – Participants: Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of nowhere.

11:00:00 – Simultaneously:
1) Swag Bucket Watcher: walk to ground zero with a bucket of swag. This is the signal that the event has begun!
2) Logger: walk to near ground zero and begin handing out log sheets.
3) Music Maestro: begin awesome geocaching music
4) Photographer: begin taking pictures of the event
5) Information Manager: begin handing out schedules to participants.
6) Food Service Manager: will prep geo-food for distribution. (Tentatively, doggie treats, too.)
7) All Participants: fill out log sheets provided and drop them in the collection box. Bring your own writing instrument.

11:00:00 to 11:08:59 – Participants mingle, share stories, brag, trade swag, take pictures, sign the log sheets, and CITO the local area!

11:06:00 – Food Service Manager: preps food and calls participants over to feeding area (“sooooooo-ey”).

11:07:00 – Simultaneously:
1) Participants: Go over to the feeding area for the official "meal": menu TBD (and tentatively for four-legged geocachers, doggie treats).
2) Photographer: preps to take group photo.
3) Participants: CITO their food wrappers.

11:09:00 to 11:09:59 – Everyone: assemble in photo area FAST and self-organize (sitting, squatting, standing, etc.) for group photo.

11:10:00 to 11:13:59 – Everyone: Listen to the photographer for directions. Group photo is taken.

11:14:00 – One minute warning is called "It is now 11:14!"

11:14:00 to 11:14:59 – Participants: Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are prepping. (You might want to "secretly" plan in advance exactly how you will leave.)

11:15:00 EXACTLY – Simultaneously:
1) Participants: Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area (exactly at 11:15) to reassembly at the East Meets West event.
2) The bucket of swag will be packed up.
3) The log sheet collection box will be slammed shut and sealed.
4) We will leave the area without a trace.

Several volunteers will be needed in order to pull this off. If you are interested in helping, e-mail Twinstars or state what you can do in your log.

Thanks to Podcacher for coordinating the WWFM.
