What is a GeoPoker Run?

A GeoPoker Run is where a number of caches are hidden specifically for the event.  Each of the 7 traditional regular caches will contain an envelope of tickets.  Those tickets will be exchanged for a random draw from a deck of cards.  The best hand wins.

The caches will be fairly simple finds.  We want to make sure everyone will be able to find all 7 caches in a fair amount of time.  There will be a couple multi caches thrown in just to make it fun.  In the end, cachers will get to log 7 new caches and one event.

The Event:

The GeoPoker Run will start at 11:00am and will run until 4:00pm.  At 5:00pm we will be awarding prizes.  The location will be at the Jarstad Park in the Gorst area of Bremerton (See above coordinates).  There is plenty of off street parking along the paved road in the park.

The picnic area is covered and has lots of tables although if you'd like to sit in the grassy area you'll want to bring your own lawn chairs.  There is running water and the bathroom facilities are plumbed.  We will have a travel bug exchange box.

Food:

This is a potluck. Please bring a dish of your choice. Hot dogs, buns, condiments, paper plates and plastic ware will be provided.

GeoPoker Run Rules:

  1. Every person participating must register for the event.

  2. Registering fee will be a suitable, caching related item prize.

  3. You must physically visit each cache.

  4. Not completing all the caches does not result in disqualification; you will just play with a limited hand.

  5. In each of the 7 traditional regular caches there will be an envelope of tickets.  Each ticket will have the number of the cache on the back accordingly to each cache. (1 for cache #1, 2 for cache #2, etc.)

  6. When the participant gets back to the park, which will be the finish, they will trade in their numbered tickets (1 though 7) for a random draw of 1 to 7 cards.  Each deck will consist of 52 cards.  Once a deck has depleted to less than 7 cards.  A new deck of 52 cards will be laid out. We will be alternating between RED decks and BLUE decks.

  7. The participants hand will be the best 5 cards out of their 7 cards.  Ties will be determined from the 2 extra cards.  If there needs to be an additional tie breaker, it will be done by a cut of the cards (a brand new deck).

  8. Prizes will be awarded from High Hand, which will get first choice, to low hand.  Everyone will be a winner!

  9. Additional Prizes will be given for: Best RED hand, best BLUE hand, worst RED hand, worst BLUE hand.

  10. Kids 12 and younger, will get to draw cards from a GREEN deck. A prize will be awarded for the best and worst GREEN hands.

  11. We have special permission to have dogs in the park even though it's stated that they aren't allowed.  Please keep them on a leash.

  12. There will also be a SPECIAL cache on the Run. This cache will have raffle tickets for a drawing for an Original Stash Coin & Pin Set. This coin is GC trackable and has it's own icon. One ticket per cacher or caching Family. Click here to view the Coin (2" X 2") and here to view the Pin. (1" x 1").

  13. There will be a Target Game for 12 and under. Three rings on the ground and each kid will get 5 bean bags to toss. Winners will be high points to low points. Entry fee is some small Geo Trade Item the kids would like to get out of a cache. Everyone will be a winner.

  14. There will be a Virtual Scavenger Hunt. For kids 12 and under. Each child will get a list of items to look for as they travel the road with their parents. It will list the items between each GeoPoker Cache. There is no entry fee or awards. Just a grab box of small goodies waiting for them when they return and turn in their list.

  15. There will be a jar full of Jelly Beans for "Guess How Many!" contest. The closes count wins the Jar of Jelly Beans.

NOTE: If the kids (or you) get bored. We plan on having a TV/VCR so the kids can entertain themselves by watching movies. There also will be a place set aside for a Travel Bug Exchange.

A Word on APPROPRIATE prizes for the Entry Fee:

An appropriate geocaching prize would be something you would take out of a cache or would like to find in a cache.  Geocoins, pre-made caches, first aid kits, flashlights, headlamps, walking sticks, multi-tools, Swiss Army Knives, and etc. are acceptable.
What is not acceptable is anything that is used (with the exception of ammo boxes), McDonald & Burger King toys, cheap kids toys, lame swag and Travel Bugs (New and Unactivated TB tags will be acceptable).

    Disclaimer:

Standard caching rules apply and each person is responsible for their own personal safety.  While we will make every effort to make the cache locations safe, you must make your own determination if a cache is within your physical ability to retrieve.
