Geocache Description:

A Celebration of Geocaching in North Carolina -
an end of summer event for all Geocachers!

All new caches are correct and available!

In case of rain the event will go on. The covered picnic shelter is very large and can handle our group. The geocache hunts may be affected but some of the more dedicated geocachers may just continue in the rain.

This end of summer event will be a celebration of Geocaching and all of the fun, adventure and friendship associated with it. Everyone is encouraged to wear their best geocaching gear and especially anything that has the word Geocaching printed on it (please no tattoos).

In addition we will also celebrate four of our local cachers finding 1000 caches. Mary, Geologygirl: Matt, wimseyguy; Dave, nittany dave; and Greg, nctreker will be finding their 1000th cache in July. Greg and Mary found 1000th cache on July 3rd. Dave and Matt found their 1000th cache on July 18th. Earlier in the day, they may have to put out some effort to find an official 1000th cache. Their 1000th caches are:

The details of the event have been finalized and the location will be the picnic shelter at the Jordan Lake Educational State Forest. This is a large modern shelter with electricity. Clean modern restrooms are nearby. The JLESF is on Big Woods Rd. off of US 64 on the west side of Jordan Lake.

The event will start at 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2004. There will be some new local caches along with the four existing caches and perhaps some other caches around. Ken, horsegeeks, will be at the shelter beginning at 11 AM Saturday morning to provide information on the geocaches in the park as well as other area geocaches within 15 miles of the shelter. He'll have a laptop and can download coords into most of the Garmin models and perhaps the Magellans. He'll have printouts of all the local caches including the new ones. Ken can give you some recommendations also.

The menu will be barbecue, chicken and all the fixins along with drinks along with anything you wish to bring to share with the group. Please indicate the number of your group that will attend by posting a note.

We also need some of you to help with the details and arrangements. Please send us an individual e-mail if you are willing to be part of the planning and "execution" (no we do not intend to execute these four outstanding geocachers but they may wish they had after a day of chasing their 1000th cache) of this very special event. The e-mail address is TheCommittee@ncgeocachers.com

Great news! Donna from Carolina Keepsakes will be coming with all her geocaching items. Her sister, Vicky aka honeychile, will be there with her creative Bumble Buttons. Also, we have some really nice door prizes including at least one GPS unit, some geocaching T-shirts, some GC.com items and some items from Magellan and Garmin.

It looks like two of the top three geocachers in the United States will be joining us at this event. Lynn of the CCCooperAgency team & Lucy, SBUX will be there.

Ken, GRANDPA ALEX, and Roger, rldill, are setting up a special flag hunt for everyone to participate in as part of the raffle for the prizes. Bring your GPS and wear whatever you may need to search for all those flags and the other caches in this forest area. The flag hunt will begin after 4 PM.

More great news! Sissy and Ken of Sissy-n-CR will be coming with some of their neat geocaching stuff. Check out the neat items at Sissy-n-CR. Those ammo cans are cheap plus they are painted ready to go. Some of these ammo cans will be available.

The four existing caches in the immediate area include:

The 15+ new caches in the area include (the correct coordinates are correct on the cache description page and will also be available at the picnic shelter 11 AM Saturday morning):

Also we will discuss geocaching, the sport we all love.
