Geocache Description:

This nice little multi will take you to the ground of the Scotland School for Veterans Children. This is a public place that is used by a ton of muggles, especially during fishing season, so try not to be too obvious as you search. Your looking for a small Folgers can that has been camoed to blend in. It will hold a few items along with the log book and pen. Most of all enjoy the area before, during and after your search.

This school has quiet the history and heritage. For more than 100 years the Commonwealth has provided a home and education for the needy children of Pennsylvania's veterans. In 1866, a pledge which Governor Andrew Curtin had made to two orphans of Civil War soldiers became a reality when the legislature agreed to provide funds for the care and education of children who had lost their parents during the conflict. From the close of the Civil War until 1895, more than 15,000 children were enrolled in 44 child-care institutions across the state. However, seeing a need to centralize its authority, the state purchased property from State Senator Alexander Stewart in Scotland (Franklin County) for the express purpose of building the Pennsylvania Soldiers Orphans Industrial School. In June 1895, 239 children were transferred from the other soldiers' orphans schools, and Scotland School for Veterans' Children, as it is now known, became a reality.

Since this time more than 10,000 children have matriculated at the school. Each child has been provided with a sound education and a nurturing environment. Many have gone on to distinguish themselves in the fields of medicine, law, education, banking and government, and the vast majority have become successful, productive citizens. This tradition continues today. As you start your search you will become more familiar with those that started it all.

At stage one you will find 2 plaques that you will need to gather info from. The first one will provide you the longitude and the second will provide the latitude. The longitude info required will only be on one of the plaques and the latitude info will be on the other but it is up to you to figure out which one is which. Have fun!!

N39 58.ABC.......

A= The number of Vice Commanders honored by the plaque
B= The total number of people being honored that served
C= The number of people on the Scotland School Committee

W077 35.DEF.......

D= The number of Doctors on the board - not including the head honcho
E= The number of letters in the Vice Presidents last name
F= The number of letters in the architect's middle name

The final location will allow you to view the area in a little bit different way than most people see it. I have driven past this local several times during the last couple of years and never got as close as you'll get during your search. Enjoy the area and take care not to disturb any nesting geese or ducks. They can get pretty nasty if you get too close.
