Geocache Description:

This is a magnetic micro cache. Difficulty is set at 1.5 only because you will need to process a few simple clues at the site to find the cache that is placed within a VERY short walking distance from the coordinates. (* See disclaimer on the 10/2/2003 update below.)

"The Gateway of Dreams" is the English translation for the name of the art structure found near this cache. Like dreams, this cache may be elusive and fleeting. (Since it is hidden without any significant degree of camouflage and can be retrieved without any degree of stealth, it could be easily compromised - come find it quick before it fades from memory!) Also like dreams, the visuals may be clear, but interpretation is required to establish meaning, so we've helped with the interpretation by providing some clues. There is a monetary prize in the cache for the FTF, but otherwise it is a sign-only cache. The FTF is advised to keep a thorough record of the monetary prize, as the information contained on it may provide clues to other future caches which could provide an advantage. Other original cache contents are the logsheet and only the barest innards of a ball point pen (so that it would fit in the container.) You may want to bring your own pen or pencil. To find the cache:1. Go to the coordinates.2. Read about the artwork.3. Determine the referenced solstice most closely associated with the public transportation route number found nearby. 4. Go to the sidewalk nearest the street intersection, face the art structure, and pretend you are the sun shining upon it at sunrise on the day of the solstice you chose in step 3.5. Take a compass reading while facing in the direction of the center of the art structure's rift.6. While you keep the compass pointed at the same point in the rift, move your position to achieve a bearing that equals your original compass reading plus x degrees, where x = the route number.7. As your radiance beams through the rift, you will illuminate the location of the cache beyond the structure itself.Update 6/7/2003:Fixed the error in step 6. (Thanks winini, PhilippeGPS, The Rat & Marky for pointing out the discrepancy.)Update 10/2/2003:Kablooey makes a good point. If you visit this site between the hours of 4pm and 9am the difficulty level increases to 5 stars (unless you want to explain what you are doing there to someone you probably don't want to meet.)

4/27/2004: We are surprised that this, our first, cache remained in place for so long. There were over a half dozen geomuggle entries in the log, there was a body sleeping inches from the cache nearly every night, and still it remained in place - amazing! Replacing this cache in the original manner will leave it too exposed, so we are archiving it. Watch for "Gateway of Dreams II" to be posted soon - based on the same art structure, but in a new location.
