Geocache Description:

Located in Belmont Regional Park, cache is an Ammo Can. Easily accessed, and a nice walk for a sunny day.

2009 Closure. Thanks cadhakla for the photo.

Description:

Located on a Landcorp farm in the Belmont Regional Park, this cache is easily accessible via car and a short walk (about 30 minutes each way). Please note that while it is on a state owned farm, this area is still accessible by the public. Please stick to marked tracks and roads as much as possible, and ensure you close all gates after you. Note that due to lambing season, this cache will not be accessible for about a month from late August each year (exact dates will be posted at the gate).

Interesting: The large concrete bunkers in this area date from the Second World War - they were explosive stores, disguised as chicken farms...

How to get there:

From Wellington, drive up State Highway 2 through the Hutt Valley. Take the Turn off marked "Belmont Hills" and follow Hill Road to its end. You will pass through a gate on the way - be sure to close this after you. Leave your car at the car park, and walk on up the road until you get to "Old Coach Road". You should be able to follow your GPS from here (another 10 or so minutes.)

Inital cache contents:

  • Golf Ball and tees
  • Stapler and staples
  • Phone/modem extension cable
  • Nivea Nourishing Lotion (enriches and protects, apparrently!)
  • Small knife
  • Glow in the dark smiley face.

Cautions: This area is very exposed, so ensure you have layers of warm clothes. Take your wet weather gear too, as the weather can be very changeable.

This cache was inherited from Chaucey who inherited it from someone else in the dark distant past...

Now maintained by a member of the Kiwicaching Association of New Zealand

Note: Farmed areas of the park are closed for lambing and calving each year from the 1 August to 19 October. The cache is inaccessible during this period of time.
