Geoaddict: Thanks to all who have found this geocache and have used this little-known boardwalk. I will be keeping the Healthy Communities geocache active for a little while longer to allow those who have found the Washtenaw Steps Up! and Michigan Steps Up! geocaches to log that geocache. Geocache Description:

Located on the Pierce Lake Nature Trail.

This is one of two caches in the Steps Up! series. The Michigan Steps Up! program was developed by the surgeon general of the State of Michigan to promote healthy lifestyle choices. This series celebrates geocaching as a healthy sport that promotes exercise of body and mind. Washtenaw Steps Up! is a program for Washtenaw County, Michigan.

Part of the coordinates for the Healthy Communities cache are located in the Washtenaw Steps Up!; and Michigan Steps Up! caches.

Parking is available at N 42° 18.381; W 084° 01.201. You can walk down the sidewalk on Old US-12 to the trailhead coordinates (N 42° 18.325; W 084° 00.989) and enjoy the hike to the cache. Stay on the trail. The trail is open only from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The trail does not loop all the way around the lake. After you find the cache, just backtrack to the trailhead.

Yes, there is a closer place to access the trail, but then you would miss some delightful scenery from the west side of the lake. Also, the point of the Steps Up! cache series is to promote physical activity through hiking or walking. Remember, it's not just the destination that is important, but the journey!
