Geocache Description:

Tanks for the Memories

Outhouse PhotoNOTE: As with other large lakes, Pitt Lake is subject to strong winds and waves which can make paddling dangerous. Be sure to check weather forecasts before venturing out to this cache and carry extra food and clothing with you in the event that inclement weather prohibits you from travelling.

Also note that access along the west shore to and from Grant Narrows is generally not possible due to falling tides that expose a large sandbar at the south end of the lake. You will need to travel along the east shore of the lake in the deepened channel.

When an Indiana cacher by the name of sept1c_tank arrived in British Columbia no one knew quite what to expect. All we knew was that he wanted to see some of the wilderness that our province is famous for. Since he would only be here for ten days, we would have to organize trips that wouldn't require a lot of car travelling.

Our first adventure was the urban wilderness -- a night of kayaking around sky-scrapers, marinas, and tourist attractions in Vancouver's False Creek. Then, we would head off to Indian Arm for 3 days of wilderness caching, that would be followed by a 4 day caching trip around Pitt Lake. Each trip was unique in it's own way, but our circumnavigation of Pitt Lake would prove to be the most memorable -- and for this reason, it was only fitting that we place a cache to pay tribute to this adventurous fellow cacher. The cache has been placed at the Dark Creek campsite which makes for a good day paddling adventure or a great overnight destination.

The cache is a small camouflaged Lock & Lock container and is located immediately beside a very well used path. Should you need to relieve yourself, you can do so a short distance away.

The cache contains only a logbook and pencil and is well hidden. No trading is necessary as the container is quite small. If you decide to leave something please make certain that the contents to not stop the lid from sealing properly.

Help Stop Those Pesky AliensMake a Contribution: Cache in and Trash Out!
You can contribute to the preservation of this wilderness area by promoting and supporting good caching in and trashing out practices. Throw a couple of plastic bags in your pack for carrying out bits of litter. A grocery size plastic bag won't take up much space and will stay organized if you stuff it into an empty film container.

Have fun and enjoy your trip to Defrauder Creek!
