Geocache Description:

The Gold Coast's Federation Walk is a community project launched to celebrate the Centenary of Australia’s Federation in 2001. Approach This Cache from the Beach - See Warning below!

A fig tree in the car park opposite the entrance to Seaworld marks the start of Federation Walk, which winds its way through patches of littoral rainforest undergoing regeneration. Regular community planting days by "The Friends of Federation Walk" are helping the rejuvenation along. The Friends of Federation Walk is a community group that is working towards better management of the last remaining substantial dune system on the Gold Coast mainland. It's aim is to ensure that this area remains as one of the most beautiful sections of the Gold Coast. For more information and a trailmap visit: http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/attachment/oceanway_thespit.pdf The top end of The Spit is an off-leash dog area, so a great place to give geodog a run. Our favourite route is to park at the top end of The Spit, walk south along the beach to the end of the dog friendly area, cut inland a bit and take the Federation Walk back to the car. There's a kiosk/cafe if you're in need of refreshment. The cache is a large 5 litre screwtop container painted green with room for large trading items. It was moved further away from the path and nearer to the sea in August 2011. WARNING: This one is best approached from the beach. Especially if you have geokids in tow. Since we hid this cache back in 2008 the area behind the dunes has become infamous for eeerm..."adult" activities! if you approach from the Federation Walking Track you may be unpleasantly suprised. We did think about archiving this cache, but thought it a shame to let this spoil a good hide; espacially as it can be accessed safely from the beach.
