Geocache Description:

It has been a couple years since I released the Thanksgiving Specials Caches along this trail. Those caches are all still up and running after two years and I decided it is time to finish up the series. Like the original series some of these may be much harder than others. Hopefully there will be enough variety to entertain and challenge everyone making this trail worth your geo time.

On this day of Thanksgiving 11-11, I thought it very appropriate for me to go out again and set some new caches for my extended geocaching friends and family. Caching has given me the incentive to get out and get some much needed exercise with my dogs. Hiking, biking and walking the parks and Rails to Trails when I am home. It has also given me something to do when on the road besides sitting in a hotel room watching TV. I have been lucky enough to cache in 39 states including Alaska. I have gotten to find many of the classic caches including the Ape Cache in Washington, The Lilly Pad and the Original Stash! I have had countless hours of entertain founding all sorts of unique and challenging hides across the country. Most of my caching time is done alone but I have gotten to spend some very special time with some great friends enjoying our hobby as well.

The Plainfield Trial
This trail goes from Wind Gap to Stockertown. It is very flat and straight. The few bends in the trail are slight and you can usually see almost 1/2 mile in front you. The path offers decent shade with trees on both sides. There are a number of caches located along this trail including a couple multiple stage caches which are my dog’s favorite’s types since it insures them a nice long hike. If you want to make a long hike of it you should consider starting at the south end of the trial and hike your way to the very end, finishing up with “Could You Hear Me Then”#GC1DGE6. You may also consider parking a vehicle at both ends of the trail if you do not want to hike all the way back. (North Parking N 40° 51.560 W 075° 16.329 and South Parking N 40° 45.960 W 075° 16.288) The South parking area has recently been redone and is now a nice paved area. There is still one benchmark across the street from there as well. I believe the one in the parking lot is now under pavement. If you really do not feel like hiking the whole trail there are several parking areas along the way which can be found from other caches, but please only park in the parking areas and not along the heavy traveled roads. This trail is one of the Rail to Trails see (visit link) www.railtrails.org As with all wooded areas in Pennsylvania please be careful and wear orange if you are going to be hiking or caching trails during hunting seasons. While there is no hunting on the trail it is always better to be safe than sorry as you never know who might be out in those woods with you.

The Original Series
The original series of six caches was released on Thanksgiving Day 2009! They were release while I was away judging a dog agility trial in Texas. At that time I was a fairly new cacher and had not had the chance to meet very many of the local group. I was not sure how well my caches would be received but wanted to place the caches as a way to thank all those that had placed caches for me to find.

I was surprised at the action the caches got over the course of that holiday weekend and enjoyed reading the logs from far away. Cache # 1, 2, 4 and 6 were found quickly. Number 3 went unfound for several days. Number 5 was even more interesting with everyone finding and incorrect container, that I must have dropped by mistake, until my first maintenance run when I opened the container and found an unsigned log. I checked with PiaCapSeal who had registered a find and I retrieved the bogus item. Since the series was released I have added several caches on the north end on the trail bringing the total number of caches along the trail to 14. The new series will greatly increase this number!

Stats to date from the original series: #1 has 57 finds and 5 DNF’s, #2 has 37 finds and 4 DNF’s, #3 has only been found 17 times and has 26 DNF’s, #4 has been found 33 times and has 9 DNF’s, #5 found 37 times and 5 DNF’s, and #6 has been found 53 times with no recorded DNF’s. The other caches along this trail include: Plainfield South Multi Cache, Plainfield Middle, Path Rest Stop, Plainfield Tie In Cache, Woodland Ghost, Green Circle gets the Smile, Plainfield Slate, Could You Hear Me Then

This Series
For those that have done the first series you know what to expect and hopefully there are enough new caches to bring you back to my favorite local trail. Those that have not done the original series will now have a nice long geo trail to do.
Like the first series each of these caches can be found without moving any attached rocks or destroying anything. Please do not destroy or move any of the rock formations, you may need to move some leaves, loose rocks, look in some holes, or slightly move some dead branches but that is it. Each of the cache containers and/or each hide are different and are taken from hides that I have come across while caching in different parts of the country. The degree of difficulty really depends on your experience. As always have fun on the hunt, cache safe, CITO and leave the cache hidden better than you found it. Please do not post spoilers for others. Hints will be provided upon request!
