Another cache in the Snake Hill WMA, this time placed along the Cheat River.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE FROM THE CHEAT VIEW CACHE. THIS CACHE MAY ONLY BE ABOUT .50 MILES AWAY BUT IT IS 1100 FEET LOWER. THE MOUNTAIN HERE IS VERY STEEP AND TREACHEROUS. NO SAFE BUSHWHACK ROUTE EXISTS TO THIS CACHE FROM THERE.

Okay, that said, you’re in for a 3 mile hike to the cache. You’ll start on an old county road (Bee Run Road) and then progress into lands acquired by the WVDNR from the Conservation Fund in early 2004. Even though it’s about a 750 foot drop to the river, the road cuts across the hillside making for an enjoyable trek through the forest.

It may be possible to negotiate the road to the river with a 4WD. I don’t recommend it but again, it may be possible. Be forewarned, you will travel 1.4 miles to N 39° 36.617', W 79° 47.263' before there is a spot that can be used for parking or turning around if you change your mind. From this spot the road becomes steeper and rougher for the remaining .7 mile drive to the bottom.

For those who choose to attempt to drive, once you reach the river you will still need to be prepared for a hike. The cache is still about .6 mile away along the old timber railroad grade. It's advisable to follow this route until the arrow is at nine o'clock.

Remember, the cache is in the WMA so take proper precautions during hunting season.

The cache is a 30 cal ammo box.

WOW!!!! that about sums up this caching experience!!! Even getting to the parking coords was an adventure! WV sure has alot of back country roads. Once there Crystal, Erin, Mike, and I unloaded the quads, ( sorry, my quad, Mikes mini-jeep) and started down in. We didn't get far, as we spotted a magnificant waterfall and just had to explore it. It is awesome!! Back on the road again, navigating some tricky rocks, puddle (lakes) and some pretty hairy crossings, we finally got to the river ( just beautiful ), where we abandoned our mighty steeds and hoofed it in the rest of the way to the cache. In typical cacher style the cache was UP hill as we all knew it would be. Luckily it wasn't far off the trail and was reached rather quickly after short climb. Great scenery, abundant wildlife, caching by quad, and the company made for a very enjoyable day in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. Except for seeing that rattler (I'm glad it was still a little chilly on that hillside and he was moving kinda slow), and Mikes' flat tire,
( 200 yards from the trucks on the way out, how lucky was that?) it was an awesome adventure, and this cache goes on my favorites list. TFTC, really!!! I took a very well rested coin to move along.

I told Erin I had a fun day planned for her 100th cache....and it turned out to be exactly that! This was our first time caching on quads...why haven't we tried this before?!?

Spent some time checking out a waterfall along the trail before heading down to the Cheat. Continued our crazy ride to the water, took a few pics, checked out all of the litle toads hopping around, and started our hike to the cache.

Up over the hill single file....then our leader Blitz came rolling back down the hill (I think he called it a controlled fall) after almost stepping on a big rattler. Tiptoed up the hill, signed in, and headed back to the quads. Finished out with another awesome ride back....only to get a flat tire abut 200 yards short of the trucks.

What an awesome day! TFTC Crystal

Dolphy picked this one out for my 100th. Found today with Dolphy, Vishneu, and Blitz. Had a great time riding the trail back on the Ranger. Blitz almost stepped on a rattlesnake.. Pretty scary since I've never seen one caching before. It was a pretty eventful day. TFTC!

This cache had been on misterp-otc's "must Do List' for some time. There was no way he was going to pass by this one today.(Even thou he did have to go around and around to find the right way to get to it. I was not as excited about making this run as he was. After we started on it I liked it a lot more as we got down by the river. We did pick up a lot of beer cans ETC as we departed from finding the cache. Thans for the cache and for taking us to see this view of the river.

My main reason for coming up this way this weekend was to get this cache. after reading past logs and looking at photos this cache made the top of my wish list of caches. With jbgrug securely fastened into the Rhino we took off. Not sure of which turns to take we chose at random as we went along. Either it did not matter or we were just lucky but we found ourselves 50 yards from the cache. Made the trek up the hill and found the cache fairly quickly with the hint. Went ahead and rode the river a ways to check it out. Saw many boats in the water just hanging out. Rode back up to one of the party spots and cleaned up a buttload of beer cans and bottles. Filled up the bed of the Rhino. Rode back toward the truck and a storm was brewing quick. Loaded up just in time. Came one hell of a rain storm as we were driving away. Felt bad for the large group of ATV's we saw hangin out next to the river as we were leaving. Had a great time and a wonderful ride. Coalcat, I don't care what everyone else says about you, great caches. TFTC
