Geocache Description:

This is a three-stage cache located in Creve Coeur Lake Park. While we realize that all cache hunting involves man versus nature at some level, when you get to the final cache and witness the activity that’s going on to the south and west, you’ll observe the struggle in more epic proportions—and perhaps give thought to which side to cheer for.

"Like winds and sunsets, wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them. Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things natural, wild, and free. For us of the minority, the opportunity to see geese is more important than television, and the chance to find a pasque-flower is a right as inalienable as free speech."
-Aldo Leopold

General Information:
Update 4/14/02: The cache has been fully restored and is ready for finding.

The coordinates posted lead to the first cache. The first two caches contain coordinates only; the third is a typical “treasure” stash. Please note there is no paper nor writing utensils in the first two caches, so bring these items with you if you find them useful. (We recommend simply entering the coordinates in your GPS and going on your merry way.)

While most of the terrain of the actual trail is fairly easy, getting to the trail as well as to the caches can be moderately difficult. It should be noted that many of the off-trail areas are quite steep and can be muddy or slippery.

A quick note about parking: we recommend that you do not park in the Greensfelder Memorial area, as the way to the first cache is through archery ranges.

We ask that you carefully re-cover the caches with leaves, sticks, rocks, etc.

Clues for each cache are listed below, starting with broader hints, which then get progressively more specific. They’re meant to be decoded on the trail, one at a time. However, if you’re the impatient type, may we recommend the Excel geocaching encrypter/decrypter, written by co-cache hider B.J. Best (yes, this is a plug). You can find it on the links page of geocaching.com.
