This gentle view was taken while hiking along
the Railroad Grade Trail and was taken by SkyRiverBlue.
Check the posted maps at the trailhead as there is more than one
trail to this cache. The railroad grade is longer and gentler. The
Woody Trail runs by the river, is more scenic, and about a mile
shorter, but it is busier with more changes in elevation. Each
offers its own beauty, so I suggest doing both in a loop. And if
you have the time, continue on up the new Greg Ball Trail to
Wallace Lake about 2.5 miles more.

In the beautiful cascade foothills of Western Washington, off
of Hwy 2, is (are) the Wallace Falls trail(s), just outside of Gold
Bar. This is a pleasant walk of about 2 to 2.5 miles, up a wide
pathway where 3 may walk abreast. Tranquil vistas, lush vegetation,
and towering trees abound. Accessable pretty much year round
(unless there's snow), and to all age groups able to handle a 2
mile gentle grade upward walk. Their original coordinates were
N 47 52,534 W 121 39,649. I've had to move the cache slightly and
my gps never quite agreed with those readings, so I give you both.
GPS reception is spotty on the trails to the cache but reasonably
clear near the cache.
Wallace Falls State Park can be very busy in the summer and on
nice weekends, but they have recently expanded the parking lot and
the trails are in good condition. This is an excellent off-season
hike if you prepare for the weather. Dogs are welcome on the trails
but must be leashed. Currently there are several other caches in
the park. The park closes at dusk.
If you lose SATs on the way, you are going to follow the RR
grade to almost where it ends. Then take the new Greg Ball Trail on
your left and follow it a short way until you cross a footbridge at
which point you are very close.
