Wanstead park Perch pond view Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs I am archiving it.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported. Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center.

Geocache Description:

Wanstead park is great for the dog and kids. Good footpaths and very nice ponds , woods all around

This cache is part of a series that I have placed within the Wanstead Park. They are all normal caches this one is a large Tupperware box with a green geocache sticker on top The overall theme is trees so just keep a look out for likely spots. This cache overlooks Perch pond and should be an easy find please take care when you find it to cover it back over again because this spot is popular with fishermen who probably have lots of time to have a look around Recommended parking is at N51.34.072 E000.03.210 Or if you have sat nav Wanstead park road and Exeter road junction. Another good parking place is Northumberland Avenue Wanstead N.51.33.896.....E.000.02.435.... Bus routes that pass Wanstead Park are 101 and 308
Perch Pond has an area of 2.23 hectares and maintains a fairly constant level of water, though on occasions when the Heronry Pond is full to capacity overflow water may pass directly into the Perch Pond by a pipe. The lake is used extensively during the summer months for fishing, which activity has resulted in much erosion of the banks and patches of bare earth can be seen at intervals. The carelessness of some anglers is regrettably the cause of litter, and problems to wildfowl caused by discarded line and hooks. A few small islands at the west end of the lake yield birches Betula pubescens and B. pubescens x pendula hybrids, alder Alnus glutinosa and various willows Salix spp. The other vegetation is largely Glyceria maxima and yellow flag Iris pseudacorus. Many of the Park's alder trees are to be found around this lake, particularly along the northern bank, or in the Dell, through which overflow water passes from the Perch Pond to the Ornamental Water.PLEASE CHECK OUT THE BONUS CACHE DETAILS WAYPOINT GCM93T
