This cache is part of the “DCNR - Legacy of Conservation” Geocaching Trail (see “Related Web Page” link above). Collect all the Pennsylvania Legacy of Conservation cards – one from each of the 30 caches in the trail – and show them all at one of the validation centers to receive a Legacy of Conservation geocoin (non-trackable). This geotrail will be archived on June 30, 2013.
This multi-cache places you in an old growth forest (follow the trail behind the log cabin inn). The coordinates will have you standing in “the forest primeval”. You will need to find a quote that references those words, and then find the associated date. Latitude: Subtract the last two digits of the date from the parking latitude to find the final cache latitude. Longitude: Yep, do the same with the longitude – subtract the last two numbers of the date from the parking longitude to find the final cache longitude. Parking coordinates are: N41 20.770 W79 13.102 Some stealth may be required depending on how busy the place is at the time. NOTE: From July 20, 2002, to August 5, 2003, there was a geocache “Ancient Forest” by ROCKY & MRS ROCKY placed in this area. Then the geocaching policy of DCNR changed to prohibit any physical geocaches in Natural Areas, and the Ancient Forest cache was archived. ROCKY knew that this forest was a great place to bring people to inspire them. This cache is dedicated to this great couple of geocachers.
