RACCOON CREEK LAKE TRAIL Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

pafarmboy: Stage one is missing, so time to shut 'er down. This one has had a good run and I hope all that found it enjoyed the hike. I'll get the other 2 stages out of there as soon as I can get the family to go for a walk with me.

Geocache Description:

This cache will expire on July 3rd, 2012

This one is a multi-stage cache with 3 stages. It progresses from a micro to a small to a regular cache final, so there is a little bit of something for everyone on this one. Please note that I know a micro in the woods can be extremely frustrating even with dead-on coordinates. Using the hints provided will probably be of more use than the GPS when you are close.

Although it's a nice hike, this is a great trail for bikes too. You will have to ditch the bikes and bushwhack to find the caches, but it's a great trail ride when you are actually on the trail (old abandoned road, so no mountain bikes needed).

The first stage takes you to an old 2-story stone springhouse. All I could dig up was that it was built in 1846. Check out the smooth cut finish on the front of the building. Truly talented workmanship. Also note that the front of the building has shifted forward about a foot, so be careful, cause Mother Nature and Father Time could come calling at any moment (note: Hurricane Ike, in late summer of 2008, took on the roll of Mother Nature and Father time and pushed over the entire front of the Springhouse.) I believe the remains of the spring are located around the back of the house up the hill a bit. Pause and reflect on the good ol' days when life was simple, but hard.

Once you find the first cache, it will give you the next set of coords that will take you further down the Lake Trail. It is a small cache that will give you the coords to the final.

Sooner or later you will come to the lake. If you have a PA license, you might want to bring a fishing pole with you. Lots of good spots to choose from.

Finally, please put the final cache back exactly as you found it (along with the accessories) so it will be nice and pretty for the next contestant. It is a .30 ammo can. Good luck and check out the others located in the park as well.

***AS OF 12/17/06, I HAVE BECOME AN ADVOCATE OF THE "DON'T LET THE CACHE SPOIL A GOOD HIKE" PHILOSOPHY. IF YOU WANT GUARANTEED SUCCESS ON ALL MICROS/NANOS OF THIS MULTI, EMAIL ME AND I'LL GIVE YOU FOOLPROOF CLUES TO EACH STAGE. I'M TIRED OF A DNF ON MICROS. SO I FIGURE I'D BETTER PUT MY MONEY WHERE MY MOUTH IS.
