A cache with a waterfront view! Short trail hike down to a wetlands, the cache is dry, and so's the trail leading to it!
No bushwhacking required.
This cache was placed for the attendees of my CITO event in this area. The part we cleaned up is the East side of the Oak Grove, which is also the CPTC outdoor Environmental Sciences Lab.
This part is still used pretty frequently by a lot of folks for a lot of reasons, not all of them good. Clean up efforts on this are in the works, but in the meantime, I wanted folks to be able to check out the wetlands and see all the birds starting to come in!!
Parking for the cache is semi-unofficial at the NE corner of Steilacoom Blvd and Lakewood Dr. You can drive in a bit, but please don't cruise through the Oak area. Your Gps will point you to a near-impenetrable wall, don't beeline it!!!
There is an old road bed about 150' east of the cache that will take you to the water, and to a much easier way to get to the cache. ;)
While you're here, take some time to just check out the wildlife. My daughter and I checked out some hawks, herons, geese, ducks, and a few other critters today while checking up on this one, and I'm sure there's more I missed.
Cache is well hidden in a likely spot, no bushwhacking at all is required on this. Not even for those who really really want to!!
Please replace cache and tether for the next finder.
I've stocked it mainly with kid friendly stuff, and there's some contributions from the folks that attended the CITO event as well.
If possible, i'd like to keep with a critter/swamp theme, but whatever you decide is just fine too!!
In case you'd like to see what a difference some Geocachers can make, find this one, then check out my other cache in the same preserve area. It's absolutely amazing what some motivated people can get done in a day!!!
Thanks again to everyone who showed up in April!
also, if you get any good shots of the local owl, please post them! I keep hearing it, but haven't managed to see it yet!
EDIT - SEPT. 1/05 There's an area close to here that's been used for paintball and such, not a homeless camp. Everyone seems to keep mentioning it, thought I'd clear that up.
Also, the blackberries are AMAZING RIGHT NOW!! get em while you can!
the more of us that keep coming through here, the fewer people are going to dumping their trash in the area. Dog walking is great through here, if you're ok with brushing burrs out of fur!!
