Geocache Description:

40 Mile Point Lighthouse is hosting it's first geocaching event on Saturday, July 12, 2008. The lighthouse is located in Lighthouse Park, approximately seven miles north of Rogers City on US-23. The park is open from dawn until sunset. The lighthouse is open for touring from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for admission in either the park or to tour the lighthouse. Click on Users Web Page at the top of this page to tour the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse website.

Registration for the event will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Fog Signal Pavilion which is located in the park at the coordinates posted for the event. There are 43 caches within ten miles of the lighthouse.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m. food in the form of Sloppy Joe's, hot dogs, buns, and pop will be provided. The grill will be fired up for the hot dogs, so you can "roll your own" if you wish and get expert culinary tips from Chef Chris of Team Shydog at the same time. Please feel free to bring an item to share, if you are so inclined.

A Closest to the Shore contest will be held at 4:00 p.m. and the conclusion of a walk/bike poker run will be at 4:30 p.m. There is a paved five mile bike trail from Rogers City to Hoeft State Park that will be utilized for this. Eight new caches have been added along the bike trail and will be active before the event. Three other caches are within a tenth of a mile of the trail . Several of these will be used for the event. The complete list will be available at registration.

For those of you who wish to camp, Hoeft State Park is only two miles from the lighthouse and is located at the end of the previously mentioned bike path. The entry is located five miles north of Rogers City on US-23. Coordinates are N45 27.822 W083 53.006
