Geocache Description:

We placed this cache for the Campfire Cache Event in the Seminole State Forest, but it will remain in the forest after the event. The hide is a standard .30 caliber ammo box, an easy one-mile round-trip hike from the north entrance.

Within the Seminole State Forest, there exists a broad range of diverse ecosystems, from cypress swamp to pine flatwoods to scrub. The changes from one to the next sometimes occur quite abruptly. The best way to appreciate the beauty and diversity of this forest is by hiking, biking, or trotting on the many recreational trails in the forest. We have hiked the full length of the Florida National Scenic Trail from the southern end to the northern end of the forest several times. In doing so we have found that some of the best and most diverse scenery exists in the northern part of the forest. Thus, we bring you here to enjoy one of our favorite spots.

While there are roads that will get you fairly close to the cache, the Florida Trail (orange blazes) is the best way to go if you're on foot. Pick up the trail at the trailhead right at the forest's north entrance east of S.R. 44 on Brantley Branch Road.

As always, please enjoy the forest and be kind to Mother Nature. Other than geocaching trading items, take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, and kill nothing but time. Watch out for ticks, particularly in the spring. There are several periods a year during which hunting is allowed in the forest, so during those times either wear lots of orange and pray, or avoid the forest until the conclusion of the hunt. Hunting dates can be obtained by calling the ranger at (352) 360-6675 or checking the signs posted at both forest entrances. Happy caching!

Zbeard is enjoying his Christmas holidays up north, so I gratefully acknowledge the ace collaboration of we3girlsnaguy™ in the placement of this cache.
