Geocache Description:

The tenth cache in the Squealy's Little Bits Series. The first multi.

Found this little preserve thanks to Cz's mom. She used to work on one of the estates when she was a kid (Schiff's).

There are currently two loops. Cz has a multi planned for the other.
Some history of the preserve:

Tiffany Creek Preserve was acquired by Nassau County in 1992 with the assistance of the Long Island Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. The 197 acre preserve is comprised of parts of three former estates; Schiff, Garver and Flagg. Thirty-two acres, still in private ownership, are protected by conservation easements and New York State freshwater wetland laws, thus preserving a total of almost 232 acres of Oyster Bay Cove watershed lands.

Tiffany Creek Preserve offers an assemblage of ecological communities within the oak forest. Descending through glacially formed ravines, Tiffany Creek's oak hilltop and upland meadow provide excellent examples of the mid-slope community. Tuliptree, red oak and red maple dominate its low slope which descends to the wetland interface. At the northeast border of the preserve lies a wet meadow with a diverse plant community. This fine example of an oak forest, ranging from hilltop habitats through its associated wetland community, forms a natural area unique within Nassau County’s preserve system.

The first public nature trails are located in the 45 - acre parcel west of Sandy Hill Road. Future site development will provide trail access to the eastern parcels of the preserve.

I believe this is the Schiff Estate:

Now on to the cache:

This is a three stage multi. It IS difficult. Please stick to the trails. No cache is more than 10 ft from any trail.

You may need a knife to help you remove part one because it is in pretty snug. You don't, however, need to destroy anything. Please be gentle.

Tree cover made getting good readings difficult. The coords appeared to be off for stage two when I planted it (maybe 50ft). When you get in the general area stick close to the trail - the cache is just off it, cammoed VERY well.

Stage three is a typical LI hide but it is a decon, so look carefully. It is near the site of the picture above but not as near as it used to be. Nothing too fancy - just put it back nice and snug.

As always, small trade items are a must. Please leave the purple paratrooper and log book. All other items are fair game.

Happy Hunting!
