A cookin' contest, Okie-style!
Okie dokie, here’s the story…
Back in May 2006, a bunch of us Okies went to GeoWoodstock4 at Cedar Hill State Park south of Dallas. On the night before the big event there was a Texas Chili Cook-Off for the people who arrived early. Since learnin' to cook both Colorado-style and Okie-style, I entered my unusual chili recipe that included both corn and BBQ sauce. Long story short, I won!
So a few months later I decided to have a similar event before our Fall Fest V. But then I thought, heck, why waste time with just chili? Let's show 'em Texans what all can be done with BBQ sauce!
We had ‘bout a dozen folks bring some real good things to eat that night! The winners were meatloaf, beef pockets, chicken & ribs, and deviled eggs. And we even had a few real bad things too. BBQ jello with little cocktail weenies inside or “Waqqules”- you see what I mean. But it was fun, and filling. So let’s do it again!
At 7:00 on Friday night bring your best BBQ sauce dish to the coords above. It can be ANYTHING- as long as it has BBQ sauce on it, in it, or around it! The only limit is your imagination and your favorite BBQ sauce. Everyone who brings a BBQ dish will get to vote for the best. Plus cooks will be eligible for a braggin' rights and whatever prizes I come up with. If you bring a side dish to share (and, yes, beer is a side dish) you will also get to vote. Only one vote per person though. Everyone else is welcome to come sample the fixin's.
On your log please let us know whether you're bringing a BBQ dish to be judged, a side dish to be a judge, or simply bringing your plate. Last minute entries are always welcome.
So bring it on, fellow Okies! If I can show 'em Texans how to make chili by throwin' in a little BBQ sauce, we all can show off how to cook Okie-style!
UPDATE!!
Wow! What a turnout! Congratulations to Mrs. Dolphe for first place with her Marmalade Chicken Wings. Second place went to Simmons Six with his Pork Butt Sandwiches. Third place was a tie between Jaygill's Texas Roadkill and Captain Crash's Naplam Chicken. Thanks to eveyone who cooked or came. See ya'll next year!
