Last Train -
Swanbourne (Bucks)
The co-ordinates above are for parking.
Swanbourne Station was completely closed on 1st January
1968. Both platforms are extant as are the buildings on the west
bound platform. The station house is lived in but the other station
buildings appear derelict and unused.
The station buildings were located at the end of the platform on
the down side of the line and are the only station buildings still
extant on the Oxford - Bletchley line.
There was a single siding on the down side serving a small goods
yard. During WW2, a substantial yard known as Swanbourne Sidings
with three roads accommodating 660 wagons was built 2.5 miles north
east from the station. The yard remained busy until the 1960's. In
the 1955 Modernisation Plan it was proposed to expand these sidings
into a large marshaling yard but this plan was later abandoned.
Having arrived or before you leave, please take time to admire
the station. There is a public footpath that runs right across the
tracks and past the Station house. The station is well worth a
visit just to see the LNWR 0-8-0 depicted in topiary. (That's a
train to you and me! - LNWR etc NOT topiary!).
The Cache
Take a seat on the platform. Find a micro. It is a magnetic
