Geocache Description:

This is an offset cache that will require that you visit a small cemetery on NC public gamelands (the provided coordinates will take you there) and use information found on the markers to get the coordinates for the cache (an ammo can located in the Sandhill's Game Lands). This cache is approximately 4 miles from the cemetery, requires a short hike (0.20 miles, easy terrain, no trail) and is located on a small ridge, a lovely spot for a rest or lunch.

The cemetery is small (approximately 30 graves) and diverse (dates of births range from 1700's to 1900's, markers from lightwood to granite) and accessible by vehicle. Please show respect while visiting this resting place.

To get the coordinates for the cache, you will need to gather information from 4 of the markers here. The intention is to show you some of the more interesting stones found here and not to be tricky.

The following is the coordinates for the cache, with some of the numbers replaced with letters. Replace the letters with the numbers obtained from the markers using the clues below. The resulting coordinates should point you to a position about 3.8 miles south, the cache location.

A - Find the marker with the misspelled word in the epitaph. (Can you picture this person spending eternity resting in tiny green vegetables?) The letter needed to correct the spelling is the __ letter of the alphabet.

B - Find the marker of the man born the same year that Independence was being pronounced in Philadelphia. How many full decades did he live?

C - Subtract the # of N's in his last name from the number of consonants in his first name to get this.

D - Find the marker for the woman born during Lincoln's war who died during FDR's war (think of the changes she saw in her lifetime). How many letters are in her last name?

E - How many N's are in this woman's entire name?

F & G - Find the WWII soldier who died of battle wounds and was buried in Belgium. What are the last two numbers found in the year he was moved to this cemetery?

Hope this made sense to you and that you enjoyed visiting with the dead.

The cache is a well stocked ammo can and is approximately 4 miles from the cemetery. It is located on a small ridge, a lovely spot for a rest or lunch. It will require a walk of about 0.20 mile and there is not a trail. However, it is open terrain and easy walking, typical of the sandhills. . Please replace the cache as you found it and enjoy the natural beauty of the Sandhill's Game Lands. Remember, the fun is in the getting there.

May we all "Rest in Pease" one day in the very distant future.

The Sandhill's Game Lands are a multi use public land. Common uses are for military training, hunting, hiking, fishing, horse riding, bird watching etc. There are wild animals and poisonous plants throughout, so use caution. Hunting is only on M-W-S during game seasons.
