Travel Bugs are meant to be moved and there is no need to trade one for another, leave one if you have one, take one if you don't. Other than that just log in the logbook. For the first forty years of this century the photography of Asahel Curtis documented the growth and development of Seattle. Like his more famous brother, Edward, photography was more than just an art, it was a passion. Ashael’s most stirring photo for me is that of a young woman on the banks of the Elwha River taken in 1907. This enduring photo of a young woman, undoubtedly long dead, has reached across the ages and taken my heart with her engaging and familiar smile. When Curtis died in 1941 he was cremated as how he wanted no funeral or fuss over his remains. Arrangements with a local pilot to have his remains scattered over Mt Rainier were put on hold due to flight restriction brought on by WWII. In 1942 the Forest Service named a grove of virgin timber in his honor at this site and buried his ashes beneath a bronze plaque at the camp. Not long afterward, a storm blew up against the mountain and a bolt of lightning struck the plaque, turning the urn into a mass of bronze and scattering the ashes everywhere. “Dad would have thought that the greatest honor of all”, said his daughter. Find the manmade object (the new plaque) at N47° 23.625’ W121° 28.237’, the cache is just behind it, on the backside of the large stump covered with wood pieces. Please cover again well.
