How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Learn how to play and build Wherigo cartridges (games).

NOTE: IF YOU CANNOT LOAD A WHERIGO CARTRIDGE (see supported devices below), you do not need to stay for the Wherigo building portion since you will not be able to test your work. If you team up with someone who can test your game, your time building a wherigo game cartridge will not be wasted.

Where:   Held in main meeting room (capacity 80) at

Henrico County Library - Glen Allen Branch Library
               10501 Staples Mill Road
               Glen Allen, VA 23060-3243
               (804) 756-7523

When:     10:30 am - 1:00 pm EST (9 May 15, same as 'placed date')
NOTE:     Setup starts at 10:00 AM

Who:       Anyone welcome

What:

1. Play a wherigo cartridge on the library grounds (and get coordinates for the associated wherigo geocache)
2. Learn how to do a similar cartridge - the easy way

Nice (but not required) to do in advance:

1. Visit http://www.wherigo.com and login
2. Download and install on your game playing device a wherigo cartridge of any kind.
3. Play a wherigo cartridge somewhere, perhaps one of the play anywhere style
4. Download and install the wherigo cartridge being developed for this event (note: will be available some time mid April)
5. Visit http://www.wherigo.com/faq.aspx and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wherigo and glance at some of the items/questions, and maybe a few answers - just realize it is a little outdated in some cases.

Devices known to support Wherigo game play:

Garmin's Colorado, Oregon, Nuvi 500 series
iPhones
Android phones with built-in GPS
Windows phones with built-in GPS
Pocket PCs with integrated or external GPS

We may have a special guest - schedules permitting - who can use your feedback on the tools we will use to build our own cartridges.  Please be ready to take notes on ways to make it more accessible and easier to use.  *I* think it is already a pretty awesome tool we will be using, but I am biased because I know of the alternatives to the tool we will use.

Special thank-you to Henrico County Library system for graciously providing and approving (and granting an exception for) our use of their renovated library in Glen Allen for our seminar.

Class is being given because several area geocachers suggested it would be a good time of the year to meet in/outdoors :) (or something like that)

Add to a bookmark or watch list so you get email updates should meeting time/date/location change at the last minute (weather, power outage, etc.).
