Warning

Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

There are three stages, all of which are in the Birch Hill State Wildlife Management Area in Massachusetts. It is possible to do this all on foot if you a really up for a very long hike, or to use a car to make it easier. You *will* want to look at topo and street maps before starting.
You can park at N42 41.899 W072 07.995. There is a trail leading generally south for part of the way, but it is quite overgrown.

At the coordinates listed above you'll find a plastic shoebox containing copies of directions for finding the second stage. The last copy is heat-sealed, please don't take it. Also, make sure the copy you take is *destroyed* when you're done.

The second stage is much like the first. Same container, same copies of directions. The final stage is an ammo can.

As the crow flies, it is four miles from the first stage to the final stage. It's about a half mile to the first stage from any road. I estimate six to seven miles of walking to do it all on foot.

Also, care has been taken that you do not have to cross private land to do this cache either on foot or with a car.

The first stage is at or near the site of the Reynolds Mine in Royalston, MA, where many Aquamarine, Beryl and other semi-precious stones were mined long ago. See http://www.mindat.org/loc-15267.html for more (scant) information.

There is always one cache that eludes me in each couple of dozen of attempts and this was the one on this occassion. I was unable to find WP1. I did however enjoy the hike. BTW, as others have noted parking is a bit of a challange. Only a 100' or so of road front had WMA markers (and these are set back a bit in the woods), the remainder was posted. My map indicated the frontage should have been much larger. I wonder if the landowers on either side are encroaching upon the WMA.

Finally!! This was certainly the most challenging hunt I've had- it's taken me to some nice wilderness area close to home. Was able to take advantage of some remaining daylight and little hunting activity to find the final- thanks for the hunt Dreamgear

Found stage 2 on Sunday, Nov. 16 on a cool, clear fall day and had a nice walk to the location- got a glimpse of a deer running nearby site, hopefully not going toward hunters.
In attempt to get to final stage, my first 2 approaches brought me to barriers that prevented me getting there (1st approach left me no more than 0.12 mile away). So having referenced a topo as suggested, I tried a different route to final stage only to find a slew of hunting activity in the area, with one hunter not to pleased with my presence, so I abandoned the search. May have to wait until after deer season to complete.

The map shows the area on the south side of Deland Road, just east of Ward Road, as part of the Wildlife Management Area, and not private land. If I am able, I will reconnoiter the area this fall and maybe stick a few milk-jug-tops on a few particular trees. See this map for more information:

Found 1st stage today parking at the coordinates designated. Upon returning to car, a note was left on windshield to "keep out of private land." There were no postings indicating the land was private, so I'm not sure if trying to find the other 2 stages will cause me to be trespassing
