Named for our faithful geocaching Golden Retriever, Mackenzie. THis is a scenic walk in the woods, best shared with a companion (dog or human), to enjoy the leisurely stroll on a scenic wooded path. The path is especially beautiful in the Spring when the Mountain Laurel is in bloom. This is a good old fashioned easy hike in the woods type of geocache.
The TERRAIN rating is contingent upon which hiking trail you take. Several hiking trails in the area lead to this destination. The approach from the EAST of the mountain is an EASIER hike. The trail from the west (near Fridley Gap Cache) is a STRENUOUS hike. Thus, if you are looking for a good workout... hike in from the WESTern approach of the mountain.
If you would like an easy to MODERATE walk in the woods, find the trail on the EAST side of the mountain.
*** Be aware of hunting season (Nov and Dec), as this is a common hunting area.***
The trail from the EAST is approximately 0.8 mile hike from parking at trailhead to cache (one way), and is commonly used by horsesback and mountain bike riding enthusiasts.
The trail from the EAST has two easy stream crossings.
